Do Good
by Dr. John Williams
“Love your enemy, do good to those that hate you.” Luke 6:27

1. Who is our Enemy?
•Those who return evil for good
•Those that offend us for no reason whatsoever
•Those who try to deceive us
•Those who take undue advantage over us
•Those who take our property or things out of greed or jealousy to enrich themselves
•Those who take advantage over our kindness and good spirit
We can probably list several hundred kinds of people that would fall under this category.

2. Returning Evil for Evil
•This is the normal rule of the world
•When they return evil for evil they think it is right and justify
•If they do not return evil for evil they think they are good
•The Bible expects us to return good for evil which is humanly speaking very difficult
•Even forgiving people who do evil to us is hard naturally speaking
•But God expects us to return good for evil for which we need a special grace
•This is the way Jesus responded when people did evil against him for no reason whatsoever

3. Returning Good for Evil
•This is what Jesus did
•This is the teaching of Jesus to his disciples
•We have been taught in the Bible by Jesus to bless those that curse us
•We are supposed to return good for evil (the Bible says what good is it if we return good for good or bless those that bless us which is done even by the publicans)
•Naturally speaking this is hard and even it sounds inappropriate and un-reasonable, but this is expected of us to show the world the love of Jesus
• When Jesus was dying on the Cross he uttered 7 words including this “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing”

It is important that every reader of this Daily Meditation verse make a decision to identify and recall everyone who has done some evil against us, write their names down and plan to do some good to them. This is the least that we can do for the bountiful blessings and goodness we have received and we are continuously receiving from our Lord Jesus Christ in spite of our failures, false and frailties!
