Daily Meditation- “DEATH & LIFE”
(by Dr. John Williams)

“Death and Life are in the power of our tongue, and they that love it, shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21).

This is perhaps the most significant thing about life. There are the two extremes. A person can have great life or he may have a miserable life and just die. In this continuum, everything that life offers lies. It can be riches and poverty, health and sickness, joy and sorrow, weakness and strength, success and failure etc. Therefore what is said in this scripture is very significant.

The Bible says “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free”. The essence of the truth contained in this scripture that we have chosen for meditation today would solve all the problems of life, if one would get a ‘Rhema’ revelation of the scripture and strictly follow it. The interesting thing that we note in this scripture is, the power of our tongue. It is not the ability that the tongue has to taste different kinds of food and enjoy it through our taste buds or to use the tongue to sing sweetly or speak eloquently, but rather the powerful truth hidden in this scripture, is the power of the spoken word through the tongue.

Every word that we utter has consequences. The word is something spiritual and indestructible. As the scientists say, the sound waves cannot be destroyed at all, but once the words are spoken they will begin to encircle the globe all the time or may some time get deposited on rocks like recording a song in a gramophone record. Just like we play a record and hear the sound back, I believe it is also possible to recapture the sound waves by using proper technology, and play it back and listen.
But the spiritual meaning of the power and the impact of the words spoken by us has greater significance. Every word that is uttered by our tongue, will produce some results or consequences, depending upon what we say.

As the Bible says, what we believe in our heart is spoken by our mouth. Therefore, there is a connection between our faith and the words that we speak. As mentioned already whatever we say, will be like a prophecy and the words uttered by us, will be carried out in the spiritual realm, and bring us the result.

Looking at it in a different perspective, God has given only to the human beings, who have been created in the image and the likeness of God, this extraordinary ability of articulating or speaking words that have meaning. No body else can speak for us or to us using our tongue, but only we can out of our own volition utter words. Therefore, it is very important that we speak in line with the word of God, so that we can receive and enjoy the blessings of God. If we speak contrary to the word of God, it will happen in our life, and we will have to reap the consequences. Being so simple as it is, no one can have any excuse for not understanding this truth. But the problem is in violating this powerful Spiritual Law by saying things contrary to the word of God, taking a very great risk, because such a negative utterance made in defiance of God’s word, because of lack of faith or fear in God’s promises, they are going to face dire consequences. Putting it in a positive way, we can benefit immensely by knowing this spiritual law and using it to our own advantage. As the Bible says, we should believe the word of God in our heart, and confess it with our mouth.

We should note that the utterance of the month will be always triggered by the faith in our heart, which develops through the hearing or the knowledge of the word of God which is nothing but truth or God’s promises.

Let me sum it up by saying in biblical terms or words, in a way that every one can understand, and that is “we shall have whatsoever you say, in line with the word of God, after believing it in our heart”.
