THE CONFRONTATION OF THE WOMAN THAT COMMITTED ADULTERY

While Jesus was teaching the people in the Temple, the Scribes and Ph
arisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery.  Further, they added that according the Law of Moses, she should be stoned: but what sayest thou? Jesus stopped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.  When they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her".  They were convicted by their own conscience and went out one by one, beginning with the eldest to the last.  Finally, Jesus was left alone with that woman.

Jesus said her, "Woman, where are those thine accusers?" She said, "No man, Lord". Then Jesus said unto her, "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more".

THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS IN THE TEMPLE

The Teachings of Jesus written in this chapter can be summarized as follows:

  • I am the Light of the World: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

  • Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

  • It is written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

SOME STATEMENTS THAT JESUS MADE

When the Pharisees said that he was an imposter, Jesus answered and said unto them, "Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go".  Further, He added, "If I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.  I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.  Then they asked him, where His Father was? Jesus answered, "Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also".

THE WARNINGS OF JESUS TO THE PHARISEES

  • I go my way, and ye shall seem me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

  • Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world

  • If ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

When the Pharisees asked Him who He was, Jesus said unto them, that He was the same, as He said from the beginning.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

What we should learn from this chapter are listed below:

  • We should not judge or condemn others for their sins or wicked deeds

  • We should believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He has all power, including the power to forgive anyone, when they confess, no matter how gross their sin is.

  • Jesus came down to this earth from heaven in the form of man to reveal God to us.

  • Our Father in heaven and Jesus who came to this earth are one in essence and are not two different persons.
