St. John's Gospel - Chapter 9

1. JESUS OPENED THE BLIND EYES

Jesus passed by a man, which was blind from his birth.  Jesus sat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.  Then he said unto him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam".  He went, washed, and came seeing.            

When the people saw him they said, "Is not this he that sat and begged?"  Then they asked him how he was able to see.  He said that a man called Jesus restored his sight.   They took him to the Pharisees. 

It was the Sabbath day, when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. Therefore, the Pharisees said that Jesus was not of God, because did not keep the Sabbath day.   Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles?  And there was a division among them.  Then they asked the blind man what he had to say concerning Jesus.  He said, He is a prophet. 

The Jews did not believe that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they checked with the parents of him that had received his sight.  The parents answered them and said, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind.  But by what means he now sees, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not; he is of age; ask him; he shall speak for himself"

This was the reply of his parents, because they feared the Jews.

The Jews had agreed already declared that if any man confesses Jesus was Christ, he would be put out of the Synagogue.  The Jews called the Blind Man and said to him, "Give God the Praise: we know that this man is a sinner".  But the man who was blind before said, "whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see". 

2. SOME  IMPORTANT STATEMENTS THAT JESUS MADE TO HIS DISCIPLES:

• Neither this man sinned, nor his parents, for him to be blind from his birth

• His blind eyes was opened for the works of God to be manifested

• I must work the works of him that sent me

• As long as I am the world, I am the light of the world
