16. CONTENTMENT

Godliness with Contentment is a Great Gain
(I-Timothy 6:6)

1. WHAT IS CONTENTMENT?

  • Being satisfied in our current position, status and standard of life, that
    we have
  • Being satisfied with what God has blessed us with, now
  • Having a close relationship with God, and being spiritual according to
    the Bible
  • Having peace and joy now, just the way we are in our life
  • Not being satisfied about the material blessings that we do not have,
even though we may not have, what all we would like to have
  • Accepting that God has allowed us to be in our current situation and continuing to follow God's laws and ways one hundred percent
  • Believing that God will bless and prosper us beyond measure, according to His promise, if we so believe
  • Knowing and believing that what God has promised He will do in his time, and He will never be too late nor too early, but right on time
  • Being satisfied in all areas of our life and being thankful to God, and enjoying and appreciating what God has blessed us with
2. WHY SHOULD WE BE CONTENT IN OUR CURRENT POSITION?
  • Because contentment will have direct effect on our peace and joy
  • Because if we do not have contentment, we will feel that God has not blessed us and put us at the level at which we would like to be
  • Because if we do not have contentment that means we have pride, which will persuade us to exalt ourselves above the level at which God has put us
  • Because, lack of contentment or discontentment is the first sin committed by Satan (Lucifer).  Even though God gave Lucifer, the archangel, the maximum amount of power, beauty and riches, because of discontentment and pride, he wanted to exalt himself even above God, which resulted in his down fall
  • Because, if a person is discontented now just the way he or she is, they will never have contentment no matter to what extent God blesses them and exalts them.
  • Because, it is a spiritual problem and not a financial or a psychological problem
  • Because, discontentment is closely associated and connected with covetousness and pride.  The Bible says "Beware of Covetousness" and "Pride will lead to destruction"
  • Because, when people have discontentment it means that they are not accepting God's plan and timing, but insisting on their self will, pride and their own goals, desires and agenda
3. HOW CAN WE HAVE CONTENTMENT IN LIFE ?
  • By making a decision to be content with everything just the way everything is
  • By thanking and praising God for what he has blessed us with now
  • By having peace and joy in life
  • By being spiritually minded and not carnally minded
  • By not coveting what others have and they don't have
  • By not having pride in life because pride will cause destruction
  • By realizing the fact that pride is a spiritual problem and not an economic or a social problem
  • By believing that God will supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus!
